This project stems from the need to work on the weak points of the life cycle of a biotechnology product or service, to efficiently connect research and the market, transforming it into a career and business opportunity. Universities generally only deal with the early phases of the cycle and the results do not mature, yet difficult to transfer to the business world using the usual mechanisms. In the first phase, the results and services of the research groups and the needs of the companies will be identified. In a second phase, when the research group's offer matches the needs of a company, it will facilitate contact between them. Some of the concept proofs included in the project have been identified in their predecessor and others during the preparation of BIOTRANSFER 2, leaving the door open to include and develop new proofs of concept of investigations that we identify during the execution of the project.

The project is based on the evaluation of natural fibers from invasive plant species in Macaronesia, A. donax as L., Pennisetum setaceum or Agave americana, among others, which are in some cases a serious environmental problem. The project also addresses the characterization of biomass waste streams from fiber extraction. After the characterization of different species of plants will be continued for the development of techniques for the extraction of fibers and later processing as reinforcement of composite materials of technical application. At the end of the project a series of markers will be produced so that the current evidence available demonstrates the behavior and final appearance of plastic parts made from composite materials using natural fibers. These demonstrators will also be used as a tool for disseminating the project and its results.

Subsequently, companies will be supported to implement their strategies through the creation of a Joint Export Consortium and the development of joint external promotion actions. The Macaronesian Atlas of Reproductive Biology with conservation applications generates new ideas based on reproductive models for the detection of population reproductive success with viable seeds and vigorous offspring and / or potential reproductive failure due to the disappearance of certain individuals (phenotypes, morphs, plants) susceptible of producing fertile crosses. Priority attention will be given to emblematic genera barely known by sexual systems of self-incompatibility. The project is of great interest to Conservation, since reproductive failures related to population decline will generate specific, concrete and effective recovery strategies. Experimental crosses will be needed to enhance reproductive systems according to seed and seedling survival. Neochamaelea will analyze the genetic paternity to verify the morphological sexual phenotypes and nature of the reproductive system.

Azores, Madeira and the Canary Islands are the archipelagos with the largest marine surface of the European Union. They are also hot spots of marine diversity, with unique communities in European waters.
This fact highlights the importance for these regions of carrying out activities and policies aimed at the conservation and management of seabed. The actions foreseen in MIMAR are oriented to know and size the changes that are developing in habitats of major interest or relevance (Natura Network 2000). New threats to human health and activities have been identified, delimiting for their protection and conservation of resilient elements and providing the necessary tools to mitigate the detrimental effects of these changes.
This project will comply with the Strategic Plan for Biological Biodiversity 2011-2020; and point 9 of the Aichi targets of the Convention on Biological Diversity.

This project will create a network of collections of microalgae and cyanobacteria in all archipelagos of Macaronesia that will complement and expand the different collections that in a fragmented way coexist in this region. The network will serve as a basis for fostering collaborations and synergies that allow different coordinated actions for the conservation of biodiversity. It will also serve as an embryo for the development and implantation of an industry associated with the blue economy in an area that has climatic conditions (light, temperature) and excellent physical (sea) conditions for the cultivation of these organisms. These actions can directly benefit public administrations, research centers and the industrial sector (cosmetics, nutraceuticals, bioplastics, ...), and can generate direct and indirect jobs throughout the Macaronesian region. The project will have a line of cooperation in regions at risk of social exclusion.

In addition, it is intended that the cooperation space be a laboratory for testing these technological innovations, considering the size of the tourism sector and the experience accumulated by public managers, universities, research centers and companies. A space where companies, entrepreneurs, tour operators and destination managers can develop their projects with all the necessary infrastructures; a space that offers the greatest facilities in terms of access to the information generated in the destination, in order to contrast and deploy business models, in order to incorporate technological and tourist activity into a niche of global growth activities and impact on job creation.

"ViMetRiMAC is an alternative environmental risk monitoring project that complements traditional methods and provides the following values:
- Very low cost leveraging communications networks already installed;
- Observation and real-time weather forecasting;
- Improvement of the data of the existing meteorological stations;
- New layer of information based on a video surveillance system with automatic recognition of meteorological events;
- Techniques and algorithms of machine learning, that will allow to detect, to locate and to identify meteorological events;
- Improved resolution of measurements of currently available meteorological stations;
- Adjustment of risk parameters by geographically very limited areas, eg strong precipitation very localized in the same area;
- Visible monitoring elements from computers and mobile devices (Smartphones, tablets, etc.). "

It is expected that this operation has a significant contribution to the registered indicators in RIS3, particularly in investment intensity level RDI & T, number of highly qualified human resources, critical mass, number of publications and degree of internationalization.

The present project will focus on the evaluation of the variables of the production process of beer with influence on the quality of the final product, in particular on the concentration of vicinal diketones, aiming i) to optimize the process, in particular the fermentation stage, ii ) to ensure the chemical and organoleptic quality of the product by eliminating the sensorially undesirable compounds; and (iii) to reduce the additional costs resulting from the lack of efficiency of the production process.

The iFADO project aims to create marine services at regional and subregional scale using the EU Atlantic Waters as case study. By filling current technical gaps, iFADO would use the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) implementation to demonstrate the application of innovative products. The project will combine traditional monitoring with cost-effective, state-of-the-art technologies: remote sensing, numerical modelling and emerging observation platforms such us gliders and oceanic buoys.

The Atlantic Area of European Union is particularly rich in marine resources. Relying on the results achieved previously, the consortium joins research centres and SMEs to propose innovative products for the biomedical field, to be produced not only from a sustainable exploitation of marine resources but also valorising the huge amounts of by-products available in the region. With this, blue biotechnology will be used as a tool for regional smart growth towards harmonization with EU.
